Old-growth redwoods without the crowds
Halfway between San Rafael and Point Reyes, Roy's Redwoods is a small, county-run preserve with lots to admire. It is easy to get to, right off Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in western Marin County. It has old-growth redwoods without the crowds of a place like Muir Woods.
ACTIVITIES: Hiking, jogging, picnicking, botanizing, birdwatching, mountain biking, horseback riding and dog walking (leash required). See the redwoods from the 2.3-mile Roy’s Redwoods Loop Trail and the quarter-mile Meadow Trail.
ACCESSIBLE FEATURES: None.
DOGS: Must be leashed on trail and under voice command on fire roads, with leash on hand.

- What To Bring: Layers of clothing. In the rainy season, pack warm hats, scarves, mittens and plenty of thick, fast-drying socks. And don't forget the raincoats and rain pants. Water, snacks a field guide, binoculars.
