900 acres of deep forest, chaparral and oak savanna with abundant wildlife
With 900 acres of deep forest, chaparral and oak savanna, Huddart Park offers abundant outdoor recreational opportunities a short drive from San Francisco and the cities of the San Francisco Peninsula. Though this property near the town of Woodside was logged long ago, the park's canyons have been reclaimed by verdant stands of large, second-growth redwoods; the massive stumps of their forebears remain. Redwood sorrel and sword fern conjoin in a ground-hugging understory in the redwood groves. Elsewhere, mixed coniferous forest, manzanita and chamise fields, open hardwood savannas and grasslands create a rich and diverse tapestry of ecosystems that are abundant in wildlife.
ACTIVITIES: The park has a large and well-maintained trail system, offering a variety of hikes through varied terrain. Picnicking and bird-watching are also favored activities. The park has an archery range, and also is well-known for organized events and activities for youths.
ACCESSIBLE FEATURES: Restrooms and picnic areas.
