500 mature sequoias call Mariposa Grove home
A chance to gaze up at the Grizzly Giant in the Mariposa Grove is well worth the 2-mile loop. This 3,000-year-old sequoia has a 7-foot-in-diameter limb that is thicker than the trunk of any other species of tree in the grove. To get started, begin at Mariposa Grove Arrival Area. Start along the Mariposa Grove Trail at the Big Trees Loop and hike past giant trees such as the Bachelor and Three Graces, and California Tunnel Tree. Guaranteed to make you feel dwarfed. If you have more time, spend an entire day exploring this grove’s 500 mature sequoias.
